LOAZIZ d'Espoir – the children’s home

Since 2007, our children's home has offered up to 50 children – from babies to young adults – a loving home, schooling and prospects for the future. Amid the garden, shared celebrations and the laughter of volunteers, they experience carefree childhood days here despite a difficult past.

The children’s home was opened in 2007, on the same site where the Centre d’Eux had priviously stood. On the plot originally provided by the local municipality, it was not possible to build a new structure because of strong resistance from the neighbours – they did not want children with AIDS in their area. At that time, the only option was therefore to add a new floor above the hospice.

Today, the children’s home is housed in a former single-family house, on a plot directly adjacent to the Centres. It provides space for up to 50 children – 20 bunk beds and 10 beds for babies and toddlers. A large living room invites play and homework activities. Covered outdoor areas allow plenty of time outside even during the rainy season. The beautiful garden with old trees is a wonderful place to play, especially in the shade.

We care for children from infancy to young adulthood and ensure they are well looked after. All children attend school and have the opportunity to pursue vocational training or higher education so that they can become independent later.

The team also includes an educator who supports the children with their homework. Birthdays, Christmas, Easter, and many other special occasions are celebrated so that the children can create happy memories. Volunteers regularly come on Wednesday afternoons to craft and play with the children, and excursions are occasionally organised – to the sea, the zoo, or local businesses. We are convinced that, despite the suffering these children have experienced, they can enjoy happy childhood days with us.
